HOSTPAPA is green!

What is Green Energy?

Green Tags are created when wind power or other renewable energy is substituted for traditional power. The result is a shift away from our dependence on burning fossil fuel to produce electricity. Using clean renewable energy is friendly to the environment and reduces emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Green Tags represent the real savings in carbon dioxide and other pollutants that occur when green power replaces burning fossil fuel.

Renewable energy is still a little more expensive than buying traditional power, so Green Tags are purchased in addition to the electricity that you are now using. Buying Green Tags has the same effect as buying green power. Both replace fossil fuel generators with clean renewables, and both have exactly the same environmental benefits.

The purchase of Green Tags - which are also called renewable energy certificates - supports the production of renewable energy in the United States and Canada. Participants continue to receive a separate electricity bill from that provided by their utility company. For every unit of renewable energy generated, equivalent amounts of Green Tags (renewable certificates) are produced. Green Tags support new renewable electricity generation, which offsets the environmental effects of burning coal, gas, and other fossil fuels in the region where the renewable generator is located, and helps shift the overall energy mix toward more renewable resources. Also, Green Tags help build a market for renewable energy, reduce global climate change, and may have other environmental benefits such as reducing regional air pollution.

The source of our 100% renewable Green Tag energy that ultimately supplies the HostPapa servers comes from a multiple of sources, including:

• Condon Wind Facility (Gilliam County, OR)
• Foote Creek Wind Facility (Carbon County, WY)
• Klondike Wind Facility (Sherman County, OR)
• Northwest Small Wind Co-op (WA, MT)
• Northwest Solar Co-op (OR, WA)
• Portland Brewery Blocks (Portland, OR)
• Solar Ashland (Ashland, OR)
• Stateline Wind Facility (Walla Walla County, WA; Umatilla County, OR)
• Summerview Wind Facility (Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada)
• Tillamook Animal Waste to Energy (Tillamook, OR)
• Washington State School for the Blind (Vancouver, WA)
• White Bluffs/Hanford (White Bluffs, WA)

The above facilities replace our energy consumption by supplying the power grid with our equivalent energy requirements of 100% green energy from wind and solar energy providers.

HostPapa is proud of the fact that their company is making the world a cleaner and healthier place. All of their equipment including servers, data centers, power allotment, and even their office computers and laptops are powered by 100% renewable and environmentally-friendly energy. HostPapa intend s to continue investing in these alternative energy sources, even with the rapid growth and expansion of their company and related equipment.

Web Hosting Reviews

Other providers we tried

So to let you know the other hosting providers we have tried and have had experience with:

1. GoDaddy
Think that it will be good to go with one of the big guns, we put 2 of our best clients in with their hosting packages. Some issues we encountered from day 1.

• Creating Emails - it is not a automatic thing. For some reason GoDaddy creates them manually and took almost 2 days to create one (as it was apparently a holiday in the US)
• Deleting - Deleting anything from GoDaddy also takes time and you see a pending message.
• Network Password pop-up box appearing intermittently - We get kept getting our clients calling saying it is asking for the Password. This happened for about a month not all the time but on certain days. So then we thought it was time to move out as either the Godaddy servers were failing on certain days.

2. iPage

iPage was one of those low cost unlimited hosting option we tried for about a year. They had their server ups and downs which we really couldn't afford to have. Another negative thing about iPage is their control panel. It is not very flexible at all for a web developer.

3. FatCow

We recently found out that FatCow and iPage come under the same company. Sometimes when we go into a chat session with them they wanted to know through which website we are chatting to them. The FatCow servers went down more often that iPage which was the reason why we switched to iPage.

4. WebHosting Pad

We tried these guys for a short time. There was nothing special with them either that we can boast about nor was there anything bad. Their Customer Service was bad at one point but this was while back which was one of the reasons why we moved away.

Dedicated IP from HostPapa

Hostpapa hosting is a shared based hosting service. This means that you are sharing the same IP address with others who are hosting with Hostpapa. Due to the security constraints placed by HostPapa to stop their IP's getting blacklisted you are most likely in safe hands.

If you have a site that requires a lot of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) then we recommend that you also get a Dedicated IP with you package which HostPapa offers for ONLY US$36 per annum.

This is what you do.

1. Register for a normal account - Click Here
2. Once you go through the payment and get your LOGIN INFORMATION
3. Go back to the HELP CENTER link located at the top right hand corner of the site.
4. On this page you will see BUY DEDICATED IP ADDRESS link.
5. You will be asked for a username and password. You will need to enter the Billing  username and password in the email that was sent to you.
6. Then enter the payment details and that is it. HostPapa will set it up for you.

If you need help please contact us.

So what is so good about Hostpapa?

All hosting providers seem to be offering the same hosting features: unlimited space, unlimited email accounts, unlimited bandwidth, etc. so does Hostpapa. So why is Hostpapa different?

This is what we have found.

1. Customer Service is excellent. They go out of their way to help you. They usually answer support request no later than 2 hours. Sometimes it is really fast. We are based in Sri Lanka and the servers are based in Canada. If they respond that fast in the middle of the night just imagine how fast they are during their day time.

2. Google Indexing. We are not sure of their secret but they seem to index on Google really fast. When you submit a site on Google within a month or less it is already indexed.

3. Domain Delegations. Domain delegations through Hostpapa is super fast. We don't know their secret but it is much better than Godaddy for sure.  One time we were transferring a client from a provider to Hostpapa and the delegation took place like in 10 minutes. Even we couldn't keep up with it,

4. Server Uptime. We have had no issues with downtime. Their servers seem reliable and so easily accessible.

5. Control Panel. They use Cpanel which we think is the best as it gives us so much control. Anyhow, with their excellent Support Team, if there is something you need they get it done ASAP for you.

We will keep updating this section so keep coming back. Meanwhile checkout Hostpapa yourself by clicking here.

FREE DOMAIN FOR LIFE

You may have seen a lot of hosting providers offering Free Domain For Life! What does that really mean? It means that as long as you stick with them you don't have to pay for your domain name.

Then the next question is do you pay separately for your domain? I thought it was all the same thing! Nope. In the web world you have 2 thing in order to get a website running.

1. Domian Name - www.name.com
2. Hosting - This is where you basically store the files to get the website running.

Now these are usually two costs involved. Some providers offer FREE DOMAIN with their hosting BUT usually you don't pay for it when you sign up but when you renew your account you have to pay separately for it. So you are only getting it free for the first year. You might that is ok not when it is due to be paid.

So who provides free domain with their hosting. There is a company called HOSTPAPA whom we have found to be the best!
